AMED - Diyarbakır Governorate issued a scandalous decision banning the slogan "Jin, jiyan, azadî". Women chanted "Jin, jiyan, azadî" against ban of Governorate.

Diyarbakır Governorate signed a scandalous decision. Before an event to be organised by the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinen Azad-TJA) in Amed (Diybarkır) at the On Gözlü Bridge in Sûr district, Security Branch police officers of Diyarbakır Security Directorate called women and informed them that the slogan "Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)" was banned.

It was claimed that the slogan "Jin, jiyan, azadî" is "terror organization propaganda". While no official document was shown other than the verbal transmission, the official website of the governorship did not include any decision on the ban.

During the women's protests, police officers tried to prevent the chanting of the slogan "Jin, jiyan, azadî/women, life, freedom" with the words "organizational terminology".

Despite the ban, the women protested on the On Gözlü Bridge in their national costumes, accompanied by erbanes and torches.  The women chanted "Jin jiyan azadî" and "Biji berxwedana jina (Long live resistance of women)" slogans accompanied by erbanes they played.

After a long time of playing the erbanes and chanting slogans, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Amed MP Adalet Kaya made a statement on behalf of the mass. Adalet Kaya said: "Today we have learnt that the slogan jin jiyan azadi, which we have been shouting with all the women of the world for decades on the streets, in squares, in parliament, all over the world, has been banned by the governor of Diyarbakır. As women, we condemn those who put obstacles in front of women and the governor who took this decision. We condemn this banning mentality and we say women life freedom with women all over the country. We salute the struggle for the rights to life and education in Afghanistan and say 'zen, zendeki, azadi'. We say jin jiyan azadi with women all over the world. We will continue our struggle against the prohibitionist understanding and no power can stand against this struggle. We will never be afraid and obey their prohibitionist policies."

The statement ended with the slogan "We are not silent, we are not afraid, we do not obey" and "Jin, jiyan, azadi".
