NEWS CENTER - In Izmir, 137 people, including former Mayor Tunc Soyer, have been referred to the courthouse following their detenditon.
As part of a corruption investigation targeting the Republican People's Party-led (CHP) İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, former Mayor Tunc Soyer and 136 others were taken into custody. After completin their statements at the police department, they were referred to the Izmir courthouse.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On July 1, the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into alleged corruption involving subcontractors at İZBETON AŞ, a subsidiary of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. Based on reports from the Court of Accounts, the Ministry of Interior inspectors, and expert evaluations, arrest warrants were issued for 157 people on charges of “rigging public tenders” and “aggravated fraud.”
A total of 137 individuals were detained during the operation. Among them was former Mayor Tunç Soyer. After completing their statements at the Yeşilyurt Branch of the İzmir Provincial Security Directorate, they were referred to court in the early morning hours.
