ANKARA- Speaking after the meeting with the Justice Minister, Mithat Sancar, a member of the DEM Party's İmralı delegation, said: "As the legal groundwork for the process solidifies, it will become easier for the process to move forward toward a conclusion," adding that the role of the Justice Ministry is critical at this point.

Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party İmralı Delegation, which held a meeting with Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, made a statement.

Speaking to the press after the meeting, which lasted around 45 minutes, Pervin Buldan said, "It was an important visit. We made a general assessment of the stages of the process in both political and legal terms, as well as the path that needs to be taken from now on. We believe that the Minister of Justice will also have an important role and responsibility in this process, which has now entered the commission stage. We emphasized the importance of conducting this process within a legal framework. He also stated that he has provided all necessary support thus far and will continue to do so, ensuring that the process proceeds within a legal and lawful framework moving forward. In this sense, it was an important and positive meeting. We would like to thank him once again.”

Mithat Sancar said that the meeting was productive, stating the following: "At this stage of the process, the legal groundwork is very important. The Ministry of Justice is in a special position for the process to proceed in a sound and healthy manner and for progress to be made towards peace, the rule of law, and democracy. There will be a great deal of work to be done from now on, and we will certainly contribute to this work in every way we can, but consultation with the ministry and other authorities is also very important. The role of the Ministry of Justice at this stage of the process is also critical. The Minister has also stated that they will make every effort to achieve this. As the legal ground for the process solidifies, it will become easier for the process to move forward toward a conclusion. We are confident of this. The Minister of Justice has also stated that they will continue to contribute at the highest level to the work to be done in this regard. We thank him and wish you all the best.”

Following the briefing, the delegation answered questions from journalists. Responding to a question about whether the latest European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling on Selahattin Demirtaş and the appeal for his release had been discussed, Pervin Buldan said, “Every issue was discussed, but we will not provide any details.”

Responding to a question regarding the complete elimination of weapons, Pervin Buldan said, "There is no timetable, but the process will proceed in stages. It is progressing step by step, as you can see. Therefore, after the destruction of weapons, we will move on to a new stage; the stage of (parliamentary) commission. There is a lot to be done during the commission stage. The commission will have many tasks and responsibilities. Once this is completed, we will move on to another stage. We are sharing every stage with the public through you, and we will continue to do so."

Asked whether guerrillas who lay down their arms will participate in politics and whether laws will be drafted for this purpose, Sancar said, "Everything will be discussed during the commission phase. Once the commission is established, all these issues will be on its agenda. The commission is being established for this purpose. These issues will be openly negotiated within the commission and will be made public. It would not be appropriate for us to make any predictions at this stage. The commission is essentially being formed to address all these issues within the parliamentary framework. I believe it will begin its work soon. We do not have exact details, but it should be very soon. We have been informed that the commission may convene this week."
